PHYSICAL SKILLS FOR WORK

ACROBATICS AT PENRYN COLLEGE

Weekly training in acrobatics and aerial dance skills with experienced professional tutors from Swamp Circus Theatre every Fridays after school.

The initial sessions will lead on to accredited work via the Arts Awards and the NCFE level 2. We can monitor the heart health of the trainees (UK Heart Research)

These skills are taught for performance and practical use by those working in the fields of art, film, sports, health, fitness training, youth work, tourism, the leisure industry, hospitality, corporate entertainment and working at height.

Cornwall doubles its population each summer and there is a big demand for skilled workers in the growing leisure, tourism and entertainment industries.

The embedded skills include health and safety, roped access techniques, group work, presentation, self-assessment and marketing. First aid and risk assessment courses can be added. We aim to create an acrobatic team from this training course that can join our work with the Celtic Youth Circus and the Olympiad.

Trainees from the same course performed the launch of Team South West in Plymouth to launch the Olympiad in 2008 and worked with the British Council in 2009 to launch the first Celtic Youth Circus in Belfast.

Along side this course as it develops, we would like to work on marketing and communication packages; so that the acrobats can start to use their skills in practical ways in the private sector (corporate entertainment) and in the community (fun days and health and sorts events).

The Arts Award is the first award scheme to recognise the development of young artists and young arts leaders.
The Arts Award celebrates the creative progress made by young people and not just their artistic skill. It can be taken at Bronze, Silver and Gold levels, which are accredited at levels 1, 2 and 3 with Brett Jackson, Arts Advisor  and professional circus performer for over 20 years.
